SUÖLO® SEA SALT IS NOW AVAILABLE IN HOLLAND & BARRETT NATIONWIDE.

Our Ingredients

The secret to the taste and health benefits of Suölo® products is the balance of ingredients.
Few foods provide sufficient magnesium or potassium to balance the sodium from added salt in our diets.
One way to change the mineral balance of foods we make at home, eat at restaurants or buy from the supermarket is to use Suölo® Reduced Sodium Sea Salt products.

Sea Salt

The sea salt in Suölo® products is produced from the solar evaporation of minerals from seawater. Sea salt contains essential sodium and naturally occurring, essential minerals such as potassium and magnesium. When used in combination with Smart Salt® mineral salt technology it is possible to reduce the sodium levels in sea salt by 50% without any changes in it’s salty taste and flavour enhancement properties.

Magnesium

Magnesium is one of six essential macro-minerals needed by the body.  Magnesium contributes to over 300 biochemical processes but unfortunately, many of us do not have sufficient magnesium in our diets.  Low magnesium levels have been associated with many health problems including osteoporosis, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and heart disease.

Magnesium also plays a role in the bioavailability and effectiveness of Vitamin D which is important in maintaining a healthy immune system.  People with a high magnesium intake are less likely to be deficient in Vitamin D. We also know that when magnesium is adequate in the diet, potassium can normalise blood pressure.

Potassium

Potassium is one of the six macro-minerals needed by the body. Both magnesium and potassium are deficient in the diets of many around the world whilst sodium intake is too high. The great news is that the potassium and magnesium salts in Suölo® have been used to reduce sodium providing a more balanced mineral profile in your seasoning.

Many scientific studies highlight the benefits of potassium for good health.  Potassium helps the normal function of cells, regulates heartbeat, ensures proper function of muscles and nerves, is essential for the synthesis of proteins and metabolism of carbohydrates.  Increasing potassium intake can help normalise blood pressure.

Seaweed

The natural levels of glutamates in seaweed provides an umami boost to foods and seasonings. It not only tastes good but the Hebridean seaweed found in Suölo® contains a huge range of minerals, trace elements, vitamins, amino acids and essential fatty acids.

Iodine is an essential nutrient and the UK has a significant iodine deficiency issue. Seaweed is the only natural plant-based source of essential iodine.  Suölo® seaweed seasoning contains a source of iodine which the body needs to make thyroid hormones that control the body’s metabolism and other important functions such as brain development during pregnancy and infancy.

Black Pepper

Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) is known as the “King of Spices”. It contains the highly flavoured compound piperine which makes it a favourite for seasoning with home cooks and chefs alike. The flavour enhancing properties of Suölo® perfectly complements the strong aromatic flavour of black pepper. Black pepper also has significant biological properties and it’s bioactive compounds are used in medicine, preservation and perfumery. Studies have shown that Black Pepper and its active compound piperine may have anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and cancer-fighting properties. It has also been observed that it may also promote brain and gut health.
